The Importance of Motivating

As the holidays approach, whether with work or school, we are all feeling stressed. But don’t worry — let motivation be your guide!

A leader has to motivate his or her team. Additionally, the team motivates the leader by showing progress…which in-turn indicates that their leader’s method of motivation is actually effective. In order for a project to be successful, a leader needs to encourage their team. Without a motivational leader, no matter how successful a company’s model is, it will not see triumph compared to a company where the boss is excellent at motivating their employees. Team members can also contribute by motivating themselves. True success in a business or group environment can only be accomplished if both the leader and team members have the project goals in mind!

I should however add that a leader should POSITIVELY motivate their team. Negative motivation can result in unhappy employees/coworkers and can be harmful to the growth chart of the project.

Being a leader is NOT an easy task. You can end up with people who just don’t want to be motivated into doing productive or quality work. This section of your work force is the biggest challenge.

“A fundamental rule of management is that you can’t change people’s character; you can’t even control their actions most of the time. Change comes from within or not at all.https://hbr.org/2003/01/how-to-motivate-your-problem-people

A good leader will try and motivate the team with small incentives from better pay to verbal praise. The leader might even try to set small goals that will seem achievable for the team. Leaders have many other ways to motivate their team. It is also up to the individual to find ways to motivate himself in order to meet the expectation of his team. This can be done by:

  1. COMMUNICATING!

  2. Staying Positive

  3. Understanding Goals

If you are a leader or a team-player, your contribution towards the success of your team is of utmost importance. So, the next time you face conflict at school during a group project or at work, focus on your contribution, don’t get distracted, and encourage a motivating environment!

So, are you ready to be motivated or to motivate someone today?
